An anonymous person in America, the savetoby.com
site operator, has reportedly kept a rabbit, Toby,
hostage, demanding $50,000 (£26,500) in exchange
for it and threatens to slay and eat it up if he
does not receive the payment. Furthermore, the
operator has stipulated the deadline for the ransom
on June 30, which means the bunny has his days
numbered in case the hostage taker’s whims
are not taken care of. The site operator preferred
not to divulge his name since he was being threatened
to death by many.
An unabashed homepage of his site, savetoby.com,
read, "I don't want to eat Toby. He is my friend,
and he has always been the most loving, adorable
pet. However, God as my witness, I will devour this
little guy unless I receive $50,000 into my account
from donations or purchase of merchandise.”
While speaking to a US news correspondent over the
phone, the operator denied that the entire story
was true and not a farce as it looked to be, shamelessly
replying, “No, not at all. As a matter of fact
this is very serious. If we don't get $50,000 we
are gonna eat the rabbit.”
The donation account had, however, been taken offline
as the service provider registered many complaints.
As of now, the website has gathered about $20,000
(£10,600) for the life of Toby.
