What Age to Seperate Bunnies

At what age do I need to seperate the bunnies in a litter to seperate cages?

We separated our Mini Rex kits from their moms at about 6 weeks. By then, the moms seemed to be a little put out by all the youthful antics and the kits had been eating and drinking well on their own for a couple of weeks. We put the kits together in a cage until about 8 weeks so they\'d have company, and we separated them at that age because one of the young bucks started exhibiting some adult like behavior and we didn\'t want unexpected kits.

Rabbits are very individualistic. Bucks definitely need their own separate quarters before 12 weeks of age. They may not be capable of siring a litter, but they will start to feel their \"oats\" and start stirring up trouble in the group.

Does can be kept together longer, but again this is an individual thing. I\'ve seen does that are very aggressive and want to fight and intimidate everybody else. Watch for fur chewing or signs of fighting. I\'ve had other does that were just fine together until I separate them for breeding. I do recommend that does be separated about 3 weeks before you plan to breed them, just in case a pseudopregnancy occurs which can happen if does are riding one another.
