hey, fellow rabbit owners, i need advice.
kay, so my rabbit is about 3-4 months old- a male lionhead Angora flop. he's overall pretty friendly and non-aggressive, but is quite unresponsive. whenever i beckon/call for him to come towards me, it's like he's deaf or something (we checked; he's not). he doesn't even look my way, which i find quite strange.

i regret that i've been lazy and haven't trained him well in the beginning when i was supposed to be. i hope it's not too late.
1) how can i train my rabbit so he'll go to his cage on command? i always have to veer him in the direction and then gently push him into the cage.
2) how can i train Binky to come to me, and allow me to hold him? he just kicks about! i feel no interaction between us because he's always exploring around on his own and never coming to me (even when i offer treats) ):

i really love Binky and i want to know what to do.
thanks soo much <3

He has been suffering with the hay for the past year because he knows how much I love Sonny (my rabbit) but its at the point where he doesn't even want to be in the same room because of the allergies.
Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum as well as new to bunny ownership. I recently bought 2 Castor Standard Rex Baby Bunnies (they are only about 5 weeks old now). I have only had them for only 11 days and were told they were 4 weeks when I bought them. Although they are too young for us to know their sex, my roommate and I suspect that one is a boy (because he is somewhat smaller and more active) and the other is a girl (she is pretty lazy, just lays there all the time and looks a little bigger). At certain times though they look identical in weight and are impossible to tell apart. But the best we can figure is the girl doesn't mind being picked up and the boy will run almost every time. The good news is they bonded with both of us pretty quickly. It took them a little more time to get used to me. But after a couple days, we were getting bunny licks everywhere.

Last Thursday, I took them for their 1st vet visit and she said they are healthy. They only weight about a 10th of a pound each. So let me jump in here....

When we first got them, beforehand, the breeder (who dropped off 5 bunnies at her friend's house down the street from us to take a look at) and I spoke about what we would need for them, etc... initially I was only going to get one, but they were already bonded (being from the same litter) we thought it would be best to get 2. I asked if it would be okay to put them in a fish tank. We had a spare 29 gallon fish tank. They both said that would be fine. We live in a 1 bedroom apartment and decided the kitchen would be the best place for them (it's a min 10ft X 10Ft). But the 1st day we got them, while I was gone, my roommate let them have the run of the kitchen. They were all over the place and quick!!! So we decided to build them a 4ft X 4Ft play pen only about a ft high when they weren't in the tank. After 2-3 days of seeing them so happy in the play pen we decided it would be okay for them to stay there instead of going back to the tank. Unfortunately, after the 2nd night we left them in the play pen, I woke up and a bunny was in my bathroom!!!! The best we figured is he must have jumped over the barrier!

So we decided to build them a 6ft by 6ft play pen using chicken wire but 2 ft tall this time. When we tried to bring it into the apt (it fell apart). By this point we were frustrated and decided to let them have the run of the kitchen but blocked off all access to under the appliances and thoroughly cleaned everything they could be in contact with hot water (I was concerned about using bleach) and carpeted the entire area with indoor/outdoor carpeting. We even got a baby gate to block off access to the rest of the apt as our kitchen has no door. So it has been for the past 5 days or so. They were both doing fine.

Over the course of the past 5 days though, it seems that they have done a role reversal on us. The "girl" will hardly come near us. We have been a little concerned about her behavior. She seemed to be getting overheated and wasn't playing around much. Neither one of us were getting any bunny licks from her. In the meantime, the "boy" got a little friendlier. Because she seemed to be hot all the time, we decided to put one of our air conditioners into the kitchen for them. She's been a lot better since, although they are drinking twice the amount of water than before. But she is still standoffish. She'll barely come to me now even when we have treats (carrots / apples). Our upstairs neighbors (for the past 2 days) have been making a lot of noise upstairs that we now hope has been resolved. They were pounding on the floor / yelling etc.... But the "boy" is completely unaffected by all this. She seems to get scared at the smallest things and hides about 90% of the time. What can I do??? Please help.

I really want to adopt a bunny, but I have a few questions before i feel 100% ready.
Is it hard to take care of a bunny? I heard they can be smelly and poop a lot, any feedback or advice on this? I would appreciate any comments, advice, Im a bit scared because all the negative things I heard about having a bunny as a pet, but I really love them, just want to make sure I will be able to make my bunny happy and keep him/her healthy.

I don't know that posting here will turn up any results, but, if anyone has any idea whatsoever what my bunny might be, please help me out by making some suggestions. He is cream colored with gray tips, his ears, face, tail, and feet are gray. He also has this little poof on the top of his head, which leads me to believe maybe he might be a lionhead rabbit, but he doesn't have a full mane like the bunnies I saw in the cage across from his. He is also about 2 to 3 times their size, which could just be from different ages, I'm not entirely sure how old he is either. All I know, is he is goofy, loves to binky all night long, and loves being brushed. He is a very beautiful rabbit and I'm blessed each and every day to have him, and although I would love him either way, I have to admit to being a bit curious as to what I bought when I bought my new best friend. Thank you to those who read this post and to those who can help me to find some sort of answer. ^.^

In my railroad-style apartment I have hardwood floors that my bunny Turbo hates, so I bought a 17 foot long carpet runner to connect the living room area (his domain) to the rest of the house. I was hoping Turbo would use the carpet to race up and down the hallway to have fun, get exercise, and hopefully visit me in the bedroom or kitchen (he's free range). Before I bought the carpet I put down carpet pads on the floor and he loved running up and down them, but for some reason, he hates the carpet and won't go near it! The previous owner let me know she used to have dogs and cats on the carpet, so I'm thinking there may be some residual smells there, but it smells perfectly clean. I've sprinkling treats all over the carpet and manually placing him on it, but he just ignores the treats and goes straight off the carpet into the livingroom again.

I could professionally clean the carpet, but it would cost $200, more than I paid for the dang thing. I was thinking maybe I could train him to come to the carpet for food and treats but I haven't had much luck yet. Any advice? I hate that he doesn't have anywhere to run!

Mr.Bunny wont leave my dog alone! I have a 10 year old rat terrier dog & Mr.Bunny (a Dutch rabbit) in the house. Mr.Bunny is almost a year old and has only been a "inside pet" for about 3 months now. Hes doing great indoors but I have to keep him & the dog separated at all times since he wont leave the dog alone! I could understand him being curious for a while, but he wont stop. Every time the dog is near & the rabbit is in his cage he does everything to get the dogs attention-sticking his nose through the cage, following the dog, showing off. His newest thing is "thumping" his feet and running laps around the cage whenever the dog is within 3 feet of his cage.

I'd like to get them to get along so they can both be "loose" in the house together, but I fear Mr.Bunny is going to bother the dog and push her too far. The dog seems to accept the rabbit, she doesnt show any aggression towards him & ignores him for the most part.

I know the rabbit has never seen a dog before, only this one. Wild rabbits used to gather around his pen when he was an outside rabbit but that would be the only other animals hes had closeness to. Thier color markings are very similiar, am I crazy thinking that maybe Mr.Bunny thinks the dog is another rabbit? I dont know how to read the rabbits actions-is it fear, dominance, play?

Great info here
My daughter & I have a pet rabbit (she named him Mr.Bunny!). He was originally going to be a 4-H rabbit but she lost interest in it. Hes now a house bunny and we love him!
About a month ago he started rubbing his chin on things when hes out "exploring" the house. He is healthy & very friendly I just cant figure out what hes doing! He'll be out sniffing something, then rub his chin on it a few times, then he usually bites it or moves along. Doesnt really matter what it is (his cage, a book, whatever he finds "new"). He doesnt do this when he's in his cage, just when hes out exploring. Its not constant, totally random.

Does his chin just itch? Is he just being a showoff? Its nothing medical is it? He is a goof & has a fun personality-maybe its just his new "thing"//

Here he is-
I should add we do have a dog also. Could Mr.Bunny be marking his territory somehow?
