Hi Everyone,
My name is Kate, I'm new to the forum. I hope I posted this in the right place. Well, here's my "rabbit story, ha ha"; Where I used to keep my horse at an agistment centre, there was also loads of animals there, including meat rabbits, and lop eared rabbits. The guy that owns all the rabbits is italian, and breeds the meat rabbits to.. um, eat.
There is a male and female meat rabbit, and he bred them. The mother is not tame, i went into her cage once, to give her hay and she kicked/thumped at me, bit and hissed at me Anyway, the owner said that my friend and I can have a meat rabbit each. (I am pretty sure they are meat rabbits, huge white ones like 4 times the size of lop eared.??)
So here are my questions;

-I have never had a rabbit before, have been researching etc. but am not sure I am ready for one, your ideas?

-I read that when you have to wean the rabbts in 6-8 weeks,
that the mother should be taken away for a couple of hours each day?
How would we go about this if the mother attacks when we try to catch her?

-What foods are toxic to them, apparently their poo is aswell, but apparently the babies eat their mums poo?

-What would you do in this situation? Any help?!

Thanks in advance!

Hello all.
I am new to the form and wanted to try and get some expert advice from breaders about the sniffles and a certian product if anyone has tried this. I purchased some rabbits eairler this year and one of the breaders we got them from, some of the rabbits must of had sniffles. I have been told this is a desease that can not be cured and the best thing to do is to put the rabbits down sick ones. I have went to the vet and 200.00 dollars later we still have rabbits that sneeze and show a slight bit of discharge every once and a while. Its warmed up here in utah and the problem seems to have went away but every thing I have read said it is not curable. So sorry for the long winded but has any one used this product Rabbit-Mycin Nose Drops and does it kill the desease or does it just put it in remission for a while. Reviews on the product seems really good.
Thanks for any help and advice.

Hello,

I'm kinda new to rabbits wel breeding them anyway. I just got a momma bunny last week and it turns out she was pregnant when I got her she had babies a couple days ago (all doing great), but I have my other momma bunny thats going to have babies soon.
Right now my bunnies go out during the day to graze, I have a couple large grazing cages and they come in at night, where they have thier own cages. my new momma bunny since she had babies I don't let her out to graze during the day, but I let her have free roam of half the building. It used to be a chicken coop so half of it is wired where its all safe from predators.
She loves it and roams around and hopps in and out of her cage all day to check on her babies. I'd love to let me other mom do the same thing. Her babies would be in her cage but then she could share free roam with my other momma bunny. But then I had a tought and heres the real reason for my post they won't hurt each others babies will they? Would it be ok to have them like that I don't want to loose any of the babies anything.

Thanks,
But I'm from AK and there's not too much here to do with rabbits. That's why I'd like to start off showing ND's! I own a black otter ND. She's no where near show quality but I adore the breed! I really want to get into this hobby! I'm willing to loose more money than make money. I've been studying- showing rabbits/health/breeding/etc... I've read many articles and now I keep hearing the same information. I cannot find much info. on what judges look for in a ND. I also don't quite understand the tattooing part. I'd really like to hear a lot about a good quality ND that would do well in a show. I want to know what to look for. I want to know what good depth/shoulders/etc is in an ND. So basically, I want to talk to an experienced ND shower/handler. I would love if the questions I asked in this thread were answered! Extra information would be great! I'd like to know as much as I can before I actually start this. :)
Other memberships are paid for (as low as $1 / month to help cover my costs).

Hello,
I am completly new to this so please answer in detail. I have a pregnant doe thats 6 months old and she has bred with a 2 year old male, I know the age gap isn't great but she's bigger than him anyway. I have researched this loads and I get different answer's everytime. Can you touch the kits before they leave the nest or will they get eaten? Thanks

I am a beginner at this and am intending putting the hutch outside but have real worries about how to best protect them from predators?? I will keep them in doors until i feel confident about leaving them out overnight. Put them in sheltered part of garden today and they seemed happy, its the overnight part i worry about. I think i have became a rabbit geek in less than 48 hours!
All advice welcome
Thanks
