Rabbit vs. Carpet

So I just adopted my new bunny a couple of weeks ago, and we're getting along great! There just seems to be one problem, and I'm not too sure on how to approach it! He chews on my carpet...a LOT! I really want him to be a free-roam bunny. Right now, I can only let him out to run around after I've come home for the nite, but I want to be able to let him run around all the time, but at this point, I know if I left him unsupervised, I know I'd come home to a bald carpet! Does anyone have any tips for how to help him figure out that mommy doesn't want her carpet chewed up?

We got a spray and sprayed around the living room carpet and sofa! Can't remember just now what it is called!
But it stopped him!
The only thing he tried to do after that is dig a burrow in the middle of the floor!

Thanks!! I work at a petsmart, so I think I know what you're talking about I'll grab some of that, cause there's already 4 little bald spots in my carpet! O_o
