Kindling should be tomorrow???
Hi, I am new to the rabbit birthing thing. Anyhow, tomorrow is day 31 and I was wondering if someone could tell me 1.) My bunny is very lethargic. Just laying there looking like it is hot. It is not. Is this normal? 2.) She has not pulled out any fur yet and this is her second litter. I did not own her on her first litter. Thank you -

RE: Kindling should be tomorrow???
We usually give a treat when we check for and on the kits. Though our does are used to us being in and around the cage and have never minded us checking on the kits.

As for pulling fur, one of my does does it a day or two ahead of time. The other seems to do it as the kits are being born. So just like people, each one is different.

Keep us posted.

RE: Kindling should be tomorrow???
Had three kits but two of them may be peanuts. I have kept them alive for 4 days. The mother did not nurse her babies the first two days. Her milk came in 2 days ago but the little ones were too weak to nurse so I have been giving kitten formula to them every 2 hours. They are so emaciated I do not think that they are going to live much longer but I am continuing the fluids just in case. The bigger one is doing well but I had to hand feed it on the second day due to the mothers milk. she now has taken over that one. I am now switching the younger ones to goat milk. Hopefully, I can save them?????

RE: Kindling should be tomorrow???
If those kits are truly peanuts, there\'s not a lot of hope. The double dwarfing gene (resulting in peanuts) is lethal. I had a peanut (Mini Rex) that lived a couple of months. Barbie Brown had a peanut that survived about 18 months (astounding!)

Most peanuts succumb within the first week. I am glad to hear that the doe is now taking care of the one normal kit. This is all part of the heartbreaks that one can experience raising rabbits. Thank God there are so many more joyous times!

Good luck.
