Bunny scared to death by horse ruckus!
I recently had a stray hors get into my carport and cause quite a ruckus under my carport. The horse was scared and ended up tearing up a gas grill and some walls. My pet rabbit \'s cage sits right inside of the wall and she just went crazy after the noise. She was rolling and spinning inside her cage. I had to put her in a box with blankets in oder to calm down and periodically thru the night she would race around the box. The next morning she would still stand on her hind legs looking off into space and then just fall over. She would not eat and had to force water. Took her to the vet and she ran around like nothing was wrong. She did have contusions around her body and head and a swollen jaw. She was put on valium and pain meds as they think she is in pain and reacting from that. The question is she won\'t eat and I am having to force her water with syringe. She did eat a brussel sprout this a.m. and she will eat carrot baby food out of syringe like she is really hungry but refuses all other favorite treats that are crunchy and won\'t touch her hay. Can she survive off baby food till she gets better. Isn\'t it better than nothing. She will only eat after the pain med is administered in the morning. Only a little at night after second valium syringe. She is nine years old and I am so sad that a crazy thing like a loose horse would take her down. She is such a member of our family and Sophie my cat is sad her friend is so grouchy! Any tips about feeding would be appreciated but right now she only eats soft stuff. She did eat a dried apricot. I know the sugar will cause havoc with the dietary tract but isn\'t something better than nothing. Thanks for your time as even the vets are guessing what is wrong other tests would be really expensive and I just paid off her bladder surgery not to long ago.

RE: Bunny scared to death by horse ruckus!
Try strained spinach instead of the carrots. Right now, calories are the most important thing. Keep trying different foods and keep hay available for when she finally feels up to nibbling some. Hopefully, as swelling goes down, she will be inclined to eat more of her normal diet.

Good luck with your rabbit.

RE: Bunny scared to death by horse ruckus!
Hi ,
Thanks so much for all the tips. She did recover from the horse incident and now unfortunately has developed cancer on her chest and on her jawbone. Removal is apparently not an option given the type it is. My vet has her on valium to eat and prednisolone to try to shrink the tumor. She is eating again(only fresh foods like kale) and I am having a hard time getting her to eat anything else. i did use baby food until she started with the fresh but know the sugar content is not good for her. If I put a string or two in her mouth she will eat a small amount of hay. Does anyone have any experience with cancer in rabbits. She was so healthy for eight years and now seems to have so much going wrong. She is still active but definetly not herself. She doesn\'t seem like she is in to much pain yet but I will have to make a tough decision when that happens. She has been a part of our family for so long but I don\'t want her to suffer. Thanks again for all the comments and help!

RE: Bunny scared to death by horse ruckus!
No, I don\'t have any experience with a rabbit having cancer. Sorry, I can\'t be any help there.
I\'m sorry to read this sad news. I know how strong that attachment to a pet is and how hard it is to let them go. One of my rabbits is 5 years old, I\'ve had him from birth and I can\'t even bring myself to think how sad I will be when his time comes to leave me.
It\'s never easy to have to put one down, but you\'ll know when the time is right to let her go. Until then try to enjoy your time left together.

Charlcie may have some helpful suggestions or info on cancer in rabbits, but you may need to repost your question so she can view it again. She is so informative and helpful Smile

Good luck with that bunny. Our pets are truly a part of our family, and it is so painful to have the responsibility of what sometimes is the very best thing we can do for them. I recently had to put my cat down of 18 years and it is still so painful, but I know it was the last best thing I did for him. Best of luck to you and your friend.

I am very sorry to hear of your bunny\'s diagnosis. You might want to vist the Website below. I have given my rabbits Systemajuv (also available through the Rabbit Medicine Chest) and have had wonderful results. Their approach is a natural one concerning all physical problems that can afflict rabbits and other animals. Just remember - as long as there is life, there is hope...

Our hearts go out to you. It\'s so hard when we love them so much, but they can\'t tell us what they feel and how much pain they are in. Prayers for when the hard decision comes.

RE: Bunny scared to death by horse ruckus!
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I had to let my bunny girl go yesterday after a very hard night. She was having to many seizures and the syrup quit working. She had lost to much weight even with me hand feeding her several times a day. I would not let them put the needle in her heart as some vets do and they did get a vein in her leg to work on second try. I sat with her for 15 minutes as she started to go to sleep. I am so sad right now . I really miss her but am glad of the ten years we had together. She was such a sweet girl and it will take a long time to heal from this one. I don\'t think I could ever have another pet that meant as much to me as she did. She went everywhere and was such a comfort. Thanks again for all the help and support. Love your bunnies and keep them close!!! Missing Sylvestra my dear sweet friend.
