bunny nails, ouch!!!
Hi guys I was wondering if vets declaw rabbits like they do cats. I have tried to cut my babies nails but they are black and I made him bleed. Now I am too scared to do it again, and I have scratches all over the place because of it. Let me know if you have any answeres, thanks.

RE: bunny nails, ouch!!!
Hi Dee Dee,
I\'ve never heard of a rabbit being declawed...Ouch! I imagine it would be having your fingernails ripped off. Why don\'t you have a professional trim them? It seems more humane and less stressful for you both. You could watch and see how it is done and perhaps in time you could trim your bunnies nails again yourself. Have some septic powder handy and trim them little by little and not so short that your are cutting the \"quick\" that is the part that bleeds. My bunnies are mildly toleratant and start getting fussy so I trim a couple of paws or back feet at a time and do the rest another day. |

RE: bunny nails, ouch!!!
Our vet charged only $16.00 to trim our buns toenails until we got comfortable doing it ourselves.

Rabbit declawing should not be allowed, the nails are easily cut all u have to do is only trimm back to the hair line then u cannot get it wrong. val [uk breeder]

RE: bunny nails, ouch!!!
You don\'t need to declaw your bunny....that would actually be very painful. I would rather be clawed than to cause my rabbit any pain. However, you don\'t need to make that choice. If you have a Pet Co or a Pet World where you are, they can trim the nails for you. You can also do what the other people were saying and take your rabbit to a local vet.

RE: bunny nails, ouch!!!
I have a rabbit with black toe nails and I know exactly what you are talking about. I got a concrete patio block and put it in her cage. It helps to keep her toenails worn down and I don\'t need to trim them anymore. I also have a white rabbit in the same cage and he needs his trimmed about once a year.
