Ok, I know this makes me sound like a newbie but that is because I still am. My daughter and I are just now getting into rabbits and learning all the lingo and such. But this is one I cannot seem to make out.

What is a peanut and is it bad or good?

Thanks so much!
A peanut is the genetic result of a rabbit inheriting double dwarf genes. It is bad. The double dwarf gene is lethal. Most peanuts sucuumb within 3 days of birth, but some hang on longer. I had a Mini Rex peanut survive for 12 weeks. Barbie Brown had a Mini Rex peanut live for a year and a half (but I think that\'s a record).

Peanuts are identified by their noticeably smaller size at birth, bulging eyes, and underdeveloped hindlegs.

Most that die, seem to just waste away. I put any peanuts that are born in my litters down humanely when they are discovered.

What kind of rabbits do you have? In dwarf breeds, each kit has a 25% chance of being a peanut. Here\'s a website with great info about peanuts.
