Just thought I\'d brag a little...
Was at a show this weekend and my Senior Mini Satin doe won Best in Show. Here\'s a pic (Zodiac\'s Polaris)...

That\'s great! Congratulations! Bragging is definately in order. My children have won Best in Breed before but never Best in Show. So how many years of breeding and showing did it take you before you won a Best in Show? Just wondering...
Oh what a joyous happy moment for you and your rabbit. You both look extrememly happy and absolutely gorgeous!
Such hard work and dedication to elaborate on that breed.
My sincere congratulations on your success.
Thanks. I have to admit, I was pretty jazzed.
Well...I started working with Mini Satins about a year ago - at least seriously, anyway. The rabbits I was showing a year ago are a far sight different than they are now.
I breed for rapid turnover in the generations. (Several 4-Hers have benefited from my accelerated program.) I get pickier and pickier with each generation and I\'ve really seen a jump in quality.
The main point I would make to someone wanting to improve their rabbits is to start with good basic stock - no glaring faults. You\'ll just end up breeding that in. No rabbit is perfect, but if you can get one REALLY GOOD individual, he or she can impact the whole herd. My main rule is:
Only keep breeding stock that you feel is as good (preferably BETTER) than its parents.

That\'s where I am still at now -looking for the \'good\' basic stock! *smile*
My problem is I\'m a sucker for a cute face! LOL
Congratulations! What a beautiful rabbit! She looks like she would glow in the dark!
Those satin-furred rabbits just about DO glow in the dark.

Thanks for the advice! The problem is that when they are babies, they are all so cute and my children want to keep them all. I have gotten more strict on which rabbits they can breed and which ones they can\'t. There is just no sense in breeding a rabbit that has very obvious bad faults even it was their first rabbit and a favorite. I think they are finally starting to understand that.
The Satins are beautiful and if you lived closer I\'d probably want a couple. Congratulations again...
Charlcie: That is a wonderful picture and you should be very proud of Miss Thing--she is beautiful! When I first saw her picture, I was thinking that she could glow in the dark! Too funny!
How old is this rabbit and how much does she weigh out of curiousity?
She\'s 5 months old (still technically a junior, but I bumped her up to the senior division). She weighs 3
3/4 lbs. The cutoff for juniors is just that, but I was worried she could gain a couple ounces by show day, so entered her as a senior.
She\'s got another show this weekend and of course, the judge there could choose another rabbit - that\'s the nature of the show table. It\'s still all great fun. After the show, I think I\'ll introduce her to a fine young buck (he was Best Opposite of Breed in the same show) and hopefully raise some more show babies.
