the other day i discovered that my pen of 3 does had 1 buck in it i had no empty cages so this rabbit had to go into a pen of 4 other males no fighting started when i put this male in that pen so i thought nothing of the matter yesterday afternoon i went down to feed my rabbits late because i had a cattle show yesterday and was gone from 6 am to 7 pm when i went to feed the pen of 5 bucks i noticed that one of the bucks had red on his under side i got him out and flipped him over to find out that he had a testicale hanging out the buck i had put in there the nite before had attacked this buck i emidiatly took him down to my mothers vetc office and called her she cut the testicale and told me that tomorrow he would have to be put down during this whole procedure he never cried and was a good boy he had some bleeding from the site but it was not causing him any pain though today he had to be humanly put down due to the fact that he had alot of blood lose

i\'m posting this so that other people can know why people say to seperate rabbits after weaning these rabbits where 5 months and where meat rabbits and had never had any problems before from now on if they stay here that long there going to get there own cages
The very same thing can happen if you put a male in with a female. Rabbits are VERY territorial. Does have been known to castrate a buck that was put in her cage. When breeding, ALWAYS put the doe in the buck\'s cage - not vice versa.

Also, on the same lines, don\'t leave a buck and doe together unsupervised. When you are breeding two rabbits, stand and WATCH. If, after 5 minutes, a successful breeding isn\'t accomplished, REMOVE the doe and try again later. I am horrified at how often folks will leave a doe and buck together for DAYS. Often there is no problem, but I have heard of several instances where the doe (obviously fed up with the sexual advances of the buck), rendered him permanently sterile. I also had a friend who left the doe and buck together and the buck KILLED the doe.

Please play it safe and avoid potential injury or worse to your rabbits.

i never leave any of my bucks in with the does for longer than at least 2 minutes i\'ve never had this happen before i was so shocked
Yes...I\'m sure it was a shock. I\'m sorry for the loss of your rabbit. Sad

Oh what a shame...the doe that I bought that was supposedly bred, the lady said she left her in with the buck for 3 days. I never heard of doing that before -I think that\'s taking a HUGE chance...especially if you have \'good\' rabbits.
Sorry to hear about what happened to your buck...
yea i miss him he was a sweet bunny but had recently started to get cowhocked and so i was goingto have to put him down eventually
