I am getting ready to build a few nesting boxes. The rabbits are outside full time and all the nesting boxes I have seen in catalogs and stores have half the top open were the doe jumps into. Our low temp as of this morning was 34* in Alaska. Has anyone seen a nesting box totaly enclosed except a opening in the side 3 or 4 inches off the bottom so the kits won\'t crawl out? I am afraid the with the top half open it won\'t be warm enough. What I have heard and read is that the doe does not stay in the nesting box all the time but only to nurse the kits. Any suggestions would be a great help as I have 2 does that shold have kits in the next 2 weeks.
Why don\'t you bring them in for the time they kindle and they are out of the red zone. I\'m in SD and put the pregnant rabbit in until I\'m sure everyone is alive well and growing. Less worry. It was only 45* here all day yesterday.
