I rescued a little black rabbit. She was very dehydrated when I first caught her but now is doing much better as I have been using a syringe to get water in her. I have a small crock of water, and a larger bowl of water as well as a rabbit bottle in the crate I have her in temporarily. She eats like crazy but doesn\'t drink any water on her own. I have been carefully using a syringe and getting water in her a few times a day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I realize she is getting some moisture from her romaine and parsley and carrot tops I have been giving her but shouldn\'t I see her drinking water? She only pee\'s about three times a day.
If you see that she\'s been peeing that much -that is a good thing. Try giving her some pedialyte or gatoraid or even add some sugar to her water so what she drinks is hydrating her. Sounds like she is doing ok.
Funny ... my black rabbit that just died last week was also found. Could it be him??

Don\'t force her to drink water. Se is getting water thru greens -don\'t give her too much of that either -she\'ll get diarrhea.
Good Luck!
Some rabbits are funny about drinking different tasting water.if she is eating veges she may not drink much water.bluebird
The pedialyte has no taste -if you really think she\'s not drinking that would work best to keep her hydrated. Although she is getting moisture from the greens, too much might give her diarrhea.
I\'m sure she is getting enough water with what I am giving her. I would just love for her to drink on her own. She\'s never touched her water bottle to even try it or the bowl. Thank you for your help!
Heh...no Lorelei I don\'t imagine my black bunny is the one you recently lost..would be nice though, eh?

How much fresh greens should she be getting per day approximately? I have been giving her a few parsley sprigs, about an inch of carrot, 1/2 piece of romaine and the rest pellets. She\'s not eating her hay much either but her poop pellets look healthy. She weights 4 lbs and hasn\'t changed in weight in the 2 weeks I have had her. I let her play in my bathroom and then she hops into the bathtub to go potty. Funny, she won\'t use a her cat box though.
I don\'t give my smaller (dwarf) rabbits any greens except a little grass maybe one a week. I don\'t know about Romaine but Iceburg lettuce has no nutritional value although it does have water -too much may give her diarrhea. I would stick with just giving her the hay and pellets for awhile and see if she gets thirsty from that. But I would not give her all that on a daily basis..too much.
Ok Lorelei, thanks! I read somewhere that it\'s best to give a rabbit a natural diet and less pellets so that is why I was doing that. I\'ll go back to the pellets and hay and see how that goes! Yes I am aware that the regular lettuce is dangerous and causes diarrhea and is to be avoided.
Is the grass a particular kind you purchase and grow for your rabbits?
People are devided on this issue how much greens too feed.I feed mostly pellets with greens considered a treat.I feed my dwarfs a baby carrot and or a piece of apple, sometimes they get dandelion leaves.if they get diahhrea cut back the greens.bluebird
Thank you!

So far no diarrhea but I have cut back a bit on her greens.
