I have 2 lop ear bunnies, both under 7 months old. One has a white worm that crawled out of its rear end then back in. What is this? How do I treat it? What dose do I give? Do I need to medicate both rabbits? Thank you!
It sounds like your rabbit has pinworms - a common parasite in rabbits. Rabbits ingest the eggs via contaminated feed and water.
First, a thourough cleaning and disinfecting of the entire quarters; i.e., cage, trays, feed bowl, water containers, etc. is in order. The worm infestation itself can be treated by giving piperazine (available at any feed store) at the rate of 1/2 oz/gal of water. Give this medicated water for a period of 3 days. Repeat the treatment in 30 days.
I would medicate both rabbits.
