I just got a rabbit about a week ago. This is my first time having one, so I have a few questions about them.

My (rabbit) is [pooping an aweful lot]. I let him out of his cage about 2 hours ago and he usually goes on the side of my couch in the corner. I checked on him and there was around 30 pieces of poop there. It wasn\'t there before I let him out. Is this normal?

Can someone suggest what is the best way to potty train him and is it ok to give him baths?

One more question: When I brought him in to my new apartment I started to notice that he was scratching. I checked and it looks like he has fleas. He either got them from the last tenants cats, or he had them when we got him. Is there anything I can use that is safe as flea control? I read that a lot of things kill or really hurt rabbits.
1./ yes you can bath rabbits i do mine nearly every 16 weeks because you dont want them catching a cold and it is important to keep them warm after you have given them a bath
2./no not really when you take them out make sure they have been to the loo or just get an outdoors run and keep them outside for an hour then take them inside because then it is less likey for them to poo and wee in you r home.
3./ it is best to ask your vet what is the best solution to get rid of fleas tlk to you soon from bunnymad-o6
Are you planning on litter box training your new friend? It seems he has already picked the spot for his box. You may want to try putting a litterbox in the spot hehas been using. And what you are describing is normal, espiecially if he ate shortly before coming out of his cage.

As for baths, I don\'t know of many people who bath their rabbits. IMO they don\'t need it as they are very clean critters. In that aspect I would compare them to a cat.

There are others that have more experience than I do and can give you some more insight.

Best wishes with your new friend.
It sounds like your rabbit is eliminating normally. There are lots of good books out there on house training rabbits. I recommend you get one.

Rabbits don\'t need baths, but you can bathe one if you really wanted to. For myself, I would NEVER consider it. I show my rabbits and washing destroys the natural oils in the fur. A flea powder, safe for cats, will work for the rabbit.

thank you for the answers this is a bit of an old thread and happy to say that I used flea powder which was meant for cats sparingly on Gizmo and he no longer has fleas and although he has the occasional mistake he mostly goes in his litter box.
