as it is still too early i havent put the nest box in but she has dragged in bedding and has made what looks to me like a nest lined with fur in the corner of the sleeping area. she doesnt sleep there or go in there much now. i will have to wait and see. thanks for the info.
Did your rabbit have babies yet?
no babies. she nested in her nest box over a week ago. i dont understand about rabbit breeding. friend thinks its a phantom pregnancy, or she had stillborns and ate them. she also growls at me when i put my hand in and try to stroke her. But she is happy when running around in the garden. Any idea what has happened????
Rabbits have very strong instincts. Maybe she didn\'t really get pregnant. Although the thought process behind it was there.
One of my dwarf bucks got with a huge rabbit of mine -although he went through the motions nothing really happened. BUT after about 3 weeks she instinctively pulled fur and prepared a nest -but did nothing with it. They are strange little creatures sometimes. LOL
She wouldn\'t eat ALL the kits. I\'m sure you would have found something left. Sometimes they nibble TOO hard when birthing them but I never saw a rabbit actually eat her babies for lunch.
Keep them separated and they should be fine apart. Some does tend to be alittle more aggressive when in the \'maternal mood\'. Maybe don\'t reach in so fast to her, stroke her head first and calm her before taking her out of the cage. She is more protective especially after she made her nest. That is \'her\' home. Let her out alot and enjoy her if she\'s better out. Good Luck.

the rabbit had babies last fri or saturday.23rd? she couldnt have got pregnant when we thought. must have played hard to get. lol. we didnt separate the buck when we found out he was a buck because we didnt have a hutch, i have had a quick look today when mother was down the garden and i think there are 5 babies. good job i left the nesting box there.
you might wanna get them neuterd and spay because otherwise they can have up to 200 babies a year they can also have sex with there babies when there only about 10 weeks old.
