Hello everyone!
Many bunny lovers have posted health related questions on this board but haven\'t updated us on how your bunnies are doing? What did you do? What did your Vet do or say, etc? I\'d like to know....Thanks!
HI Suziel,
After I posted \'night droppings\' I researched more on the net. I found a good article through National Houserabbit society that describes the same problem. Their vet recommended cutting way back on commercial pellets, increasing greens, cutting out fruit and carbs and supplying lots of hay (she\'s always gotten lots of hay). I then called my vet, whom has been my family\'s vet for over 30 years, and made an appointment for a check up. With their Ok, I then bathed our bun, and that was a treat trying to get the crude off her bottom! She took the bath amazingly well and we sat over the forced air heat vent drying with towels. I changed her diet according to what I\'d found on the net (which went against everything I\'d been told by everyone else) and by the time we went to the vet two days later, she seemed almost normal. Our vet checked her droppings and ear wax for any problems, and she\'s totally healthy. He shaved her bottom some to help her keep clean (we call it her brazilian) and his recommendation was hay, pellets and limit the vegies. Opposite of the web vet. Sooo, we are watching her closely and just adjusting accordingly, she actually seems better with more vegies. He also said that ANY change in diet can cause a bout of this problem. We had just started a new better quality pellet food. He said that while it\'s probably better for her, she may have those symptoms while her system adjusts.
Hi Mindy!
Thanks for updating us! I think exchanging accurate information on how to keep our bunnies happy and healthy is #1! It\'s great to see responsible pet ownership and kudos to you for being proactive! I\'m glad you\'re bunny is doing much better!
Binkies,
Suzie
