My new DH has a swollen dewlap -I did breed her again but there is quite a lump. She\'s been alittle nippy lately because of the heat and \'her condition\' so I\'ve been leaving them alone and just trying to keep everyone cool.
This lump looks like something is in it -so I called the vet. I vaguely remember this situation from years ago when I was a little girl -ok, centuries ago! LOL
Any suggestions for care on this after the dr. looks at it? Anything I should be aware of? Does this parasite spread? She has a male on one side -I\'d hate for both to have it if it is in fact warbles.
Thanx.
Well, that was disturbing. Just for the record -the doc popped out a slug (maggot) out of the side of her neck. Huge hole. Gave me a light antibiotic creme to squirt in the hole since she\'s hopefully pregnant (again). She\'s been in and out of the house with this heat but she\'s in the house to stay now to heal and then hopefully kindle.
Anyone else have this experience?
Warbles are certainly gross! Question...
Is your rabbit housed in a hutch with a solid floor (or nesting box), all wire, or combination? Sometimes the Cuterebra flies lay eggs near an open wound of the rabbit (or other host), but often, they lay their eggs on a
surface which the rabbit then picks up on its fur and then ingests during grooming. After hatching the larvae then migrate to a subcutaneous position (usually near the head, neck, or trunk).
Since she\'s in the house now, she should be safe from reinfestation. Good luck.

She has a wire bootom to the cage but each rabbit as a small hock board to sit on. Hmmm...maybe I should take that out and clean it well?
I did find a dried scab on her back during her vet exam on her spine -maybe thats where it started?
It looks really good now even though theres still \'a hole\'! Guess she\'s not going to the fair -some rabbits will do anything to get outta that! LOL
Thanx Charlcie. Think I\'ll do some homework on that one.
