what is the best thing to treat them with. one hock is just missing hair the other is red but there is no broken skin. we have a show 3 weeks from thursday.
I have used Anusol, hemorhoid ointment in the past with good success. I have only had to a few times, thank goodness. You just apply it to there feet and keep checking on it. It puts a protective coating over the foot. I applied it at least twice a day. We also give them a resting mat to sit on, one that is made for rabbits. Wood can get messy, the others are easy to wash up. And make sure the bottom of the cage is really clean. Hope this helps?

This is a problem my rex has every summer. In the winter when it gets cold, he doesn\'t have this problem. I usually use Bacitracin, but I will have to try the Anusol sometime. My rex can\'t be on wire in the summer and the best way I have found to prevent sore hocks is to just bring him in air conditioning until the heat wave is over with.
We\'ve used bag balm on our Mini Rex\'s and that works good too. They went from having sores to just missing hair and now the hair has grown back and you can\'t even tell they ever had a problem.
In Europe they do not put their rabbits on wire bottomed cages- they build the bottoms with wood and pack them with shavings- medications do work but for a big rabbit like a REX getting them off the wire is the best thing- I saw Rex show rabbits up in No Calif that were raised the European way and oh my gosh- they were beautiful- no sores at all! One of the cage companies in Calif sold plastic resting pads for cages that locked together to cover part or all of the cage- I\'d put those down and then put plywood on the inside walls about 6\" up and fill the cage with shavings- Morton Jones and KW Cages were the companies
