Here is the deal. I recently started volunteering at a local humane society... maybe a mistake! lol There is this beutiful white rabbit there and she is VERY friendly and calm. I am thinking of adopting her but know nothing really about rabbits. My son has a guinea pig. Would they get along to play or socialize? I think I will wait until she has been there a month to make sure she is not pregnant. Is there any way of telling before that?
I\'m sure, if I can talk my husband into a new furry critter, I will have more questions!
Thanks!
Trish
She looks like a Florida White. How big is she? If someone knew how to palpate, it could be determined whether or not she was pregnant.
The rabbit and cavy should probably get along fine, though their needs are different enough that I would recommend separate housing. If you let them out together, be there to supervise. I would recommend getting the rabbit spayed when you get her.
Good luck.

Cudos to volunteering!!! I think it\'s safe to say we all started with just one rabbit. They do require alot more care than a guinea pig and more attention. Do your research on the care etc. before asking your husband to see if it truely in your budget and time to give it your attention. Personally, I think you will come home with more than a rabbit. If you are a softie like me you will have a golden retriever, cat, parrot, 3 rabbits and fish! Some say we have the whole food chain, I say we have the \"Ark\".
Been there, done that. We use to have 12 parrots, 3 dogs, 2 rabbits and a koi pond. Now we have 3 dogs, 3 birds, 2 house rabbits, 4 adult rabbits in the barn (our breeders) and 6 new babies. We got 2 of the dogs after volunteering with the local shelter. The parrots had come while I worked with a parrot rescue. So rescue work can be dangerous - to your budget! But not to the heart!
HAHA!!! Yeah, it is dangerous! lol I worked with animals from the time I was 12 (volunteering) \'til I was 28. Then I had a kid! lol I used to breed Bernese Mountain Dogs. Now I am down to 1 Mutt ( best dog I\'ve ever had!), 1 cat and 1 GP. I\'m missing the multi animal household!
What more do you have to do to a rabbit then a G.P.?
What should I look for as far as health goes?
Thanks for your help!!!!
Oh yeah, she is not a dwarf...and she is not as big as those really big ones...I know, I\'m terribly uninformed when it comes to rabbits!

Check the nose it should be clean no discharge, flip her over check her bottom no stuck fecal matter, paws nothing stuck to the fur, ears clean, feet no sores.guinea pigs can catch colds from you .rabbits cannot.rabbits may chew wires, furniture, carpet.I have only supervised play.bluebird
thanks for the advice. Someone adopted my bunny.

But now I will have time to investigate! lol I\'m glad she got a good home.
i just hav to say that a good friend of mine has a guinea pig and a rabbit.the animals live in the same hutch together and seem fine together.the animals sometimes play fight but it is just harmless fun.if it carrys on to much then you should seperate them
