We have moved the kits to a basket and moved the doe and kits inside. We have seven. Do I need to build a nest box now or just put hay in this nasket? I saw a picture of a nest box but can\'t seem to find it to make drawings and my printer is down. Can you let me know of the site? Our doe is a blue dutch and the male is a tan and white mini flop. Are we making a mistake breeding these different types of rabbits? The kits are either all gray or gray and white and seem to look mostly like the flops. We have 2 left from her 1st liter. What age do we nuter or spay these rabbits? Thank you. I\'m going Rabbit crazy. This is all for my daughter who loves them soooo much!
Well...I always recommend a nest box. Not seeing your basket, I couldn\'t really tell you if it was suitable or not. Are there any feed stores near where you live? Often, feed stores carry them. In a pinch, you can attach cardboard to the sides of the cage and under the corner of the floor of the cage where the kits were born. Put lots of shavings and then hay in this corner and put the nest there (making the cage itself the nest box). If the basket wasn\'t stable, I would worry about the doe tipping it over when she attempted to jump in to feed her kits.
Dutch and Mini
LOP (not flop) rabbits are compatible size-wise for breeding. You can neuter the bucks between 3 and 4 months and the does at 6 months.

I think its a mistake too breed mixed breeds.few people want them and there are enough cross breed unwanted rabbits.bluebird
I do agree with Bluebird. While the question seemed centered on size to me, I\'m really not in favor of breeding mixed rabbits \"just because\". (I\'m also not in favor of indiscriminant breeding of dogs and cats either.) Whenever you breed two rabbits together, you need to think past the prospect of having a litter of adorable bunnies. How will you find homes for them once weaned? There are just too many unwanted animals in shelters nowadays.
I do applaud your willingness to have the animals neutered, which led me to believe this was a one-shot deal, not to be repeated.
