I have a nice collection of different bantams all different colors in a very large pen. I have introduced 3 rabbits which are very happy and content. The problem is that i dont seem to be able to feed them green stuff like lettuce as the bantams are in and stealing it before they get a chance to eat it. Does anyone have any tips on how present food to the rabbits so that the bantams can\'t get to it?
Separate them at feeding time.

What is the entire diet for the rabbits? I only ask, because a diet that is good for bantams isn\'t necessarily good for rabbits. Also you should only give the rabbits enough greens that they can consume in about 10 minutes. The greens you are feeding are dark and leafy, correct? Iceburg lettuce has almost no nutritional value.

If the rabbits are running on the ground with the chickens, I also might be a bit concerned about coccidia and/or salmonella infections.

I have ever had a rabbit in with chickens and I would prefer they aren\'t. There are several reasons -first besides what charlcie\'s concern with disease -why subject the rabbit, it could be fatal if not detected and treated. 2) chickens peck -they could hurt the rabbits eyes. Friendly rabbits do not know to back away without learning the hard way 3) rabbits should not be eating chicken food on a daily basis. Each animal has a specific food that is nutritionally balanced for that particular animal. Temporary may be fine -but in the long run -some one will suffer. 4) If your doe kindles near the chickens chances are their natural instinct will be to eat the babies like they are wild mice. Unless they are nuetered.
But besides that -with that taken into consideration then you should put the rabbits in a cage to feed them! Smile
I don\'t have a rabbit in with my chickens anymore. I was just too concerned for their well being.
