Since the time I have brought my first rabbit last month – which is five months old – he has been on medication for sneezing and flu. I asked the vet the cause for this and she said it would be the right time to neuter the bunny when he reaches 6 months – that is next month. She said the neutering/spaying operation will hardly take one hour and is not risky. But I am scared to put my bunny through the ordeal as I love him and also the vet functions from a house clinic and there are no other vets in the vicinity since I stay far from the city. I just wanted to know the difference between a neutered male rabbit and a non-neutered rabbit.

Is it that the neutered rabbit lives longer?

Please advice!
Dear Crusi-
A neutered rabbit may live longer, specifically potentially lowering the risk of reproductive related cancer. Not to say that there aren\'t other diseases that my factor into their lifespan. Behaviorally, it may alter his personality ie: temperment or spraying. I would not recommend having him neutered while he is being treated for his \"snuffles.\" With his respiratory issues there would be an increased risk with him undergoing a surgery. Please wait until he is in better health. There should be no hurry to have him neutered. With some planning, you may want to plan a day trip to the city and have another Vet like your local Humane Society do his neuter sugery.
