Hi! I am hoping someone may have some advice for me. My rabbit is about 2 weeks pregnant. Starting from the day after she got pregnant, she began carrying hay in her mouth and building a nest in her litter box. A few days ago, she started pulling out her fur and putting it in the litter box too.

Today I came home and there was some blood splattered on her resting board and a few droplets on the floor under her cage. Is it possible for her to have some sort of bloody discharge or does this mean a miscarriage?

Any suggestions for what I should do? Should I put a nesting box in her cage and move the fur and hay into that and just wait to see what happens? Are there any signs I should look for that there is a problem? She is currently eating, drinking and moving around as normal and her fur is clean as if nothing happened.

Any help would be appreciated!
Amanda
She might of had a miscarraige but i cant be sure unless i palpated her.Signs of trouble are not eating or if shes bleeding.I would still give her a nest box.bluebird
It sounds like a miscarriage to me. It is unusual, though, that she would have been nest building immediately after breeding. Are you sure she hadn\'t been bred previously and you didn\'t know about it?

You can try the nest box. It can\'t hurt. Put the nesting materials in there and see what happens. My guess is though, with blood, and fur pulling and you\'re SURE she wasn\'t bred before, that she has had a miscarriage.

In Bluebird\'s response to you, she mentioned palpating the doe. This is a really good skill to have and I feel it should be a MUST to learn if you want to breed rabbits.

I have an article on the OLRCB Website on palpation. I invite you to check it out and give it some practice...

Thanks Bluebird and Charlcie!

She is eating, drinking and acting fine. I am sure she wasn\'t bred before and she was just about 2 weeks when this happened. I thought it was a little odd that she was building a nest so early on, but she has had several false pregnancy episodes before so I thought maybe she was just doing that again originally. I went ahead and put the nesting box in for her and put the fur she had pulled out in the nesting box with some hay. She has been sitting in the box off and on and rearranging it some.

A friend of mine called around to a few vets to get opinions as well and some of them said there was a possibility that the bleeding was just a little bit of spotting and that she still may have baby bunnies and others thought it was a miscarriage. I will try the palpating that Charlcie suggested and see if I can feel anything.

At this point, with no signs of distress, I\'m just going to keep a close eye on her and see what happens. I\'ll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks!
Amanda
