Has anyone had surgery done to take out bladder stones? I am nervously waiting for a call from my vet about my bunny and wonder if someone else has opted for this surgery. The cost is unbelievable but just could not let her go without trying. She is 9 yrs old but otherwise good health. My vet said prognosis was good as long as she came thru surgery okay. So nervous about her recovery and wonder if anyone else has had this done. Thanks!
No, I\'ve never had surgery done on my rabbits -ever. Hoping the best for your little one -let us know how she makes out.
I used to be a vet tech and most of my experience is with cats and dogs, not bunnies. Bladder stones in dogs and cats is more common than one would think and surgery has become very routine for most vets. There is always a risk with anesthesia, but if you have a good, experienced vet who is used to dealing with rabbits, I would think the risk is reduced. Dogs and cats do very well with anesthesia and bladder surgery. I guess that I would suggest that a highly qualified vet is the most important part to it. I know that surgery is quite costly already, but look into a Veterinary Specialist Hospital.
I didn\'t want to worry nicknot about the anesthesia- but that was the only concerns of the vet when they took xrays of my rabbit.
Thanks everyone for the thoughts . My bunny made it thru surgery and they also spayed her while operating on the stone. The stone was the size of her bladder! no Wonder she had so much trouble. She had to be coddled back to health but made it thanks to a wonderful Dr. Rundlett!
So glad to hear she made it ok and is on her road to recovery. FUnny -after this thread another person I know of had a rabbit with the same situation but the stones passed through. Guess it is more common than I thought?!
Hope all is well.
