How do I tell if my bunnies are boys or girls. I bought 4 rabbits 2 boys(?) and 2 girls (?) I have had them since January and still no babies. My husband said they may be all the same either boys or girls how do I tell the difference? Sorry to sound so stupid. Thank you for any help anyone can provide.
Thank you,
CARLENA
If they are the same sex, chances are they are both female. If they were both males they would be fighting unless they were fixed. When rabbits mature, you can see the testicles on the males.
It\'s pretty obvious, really in an older rabbit. Very young rabbits can be more difficult, but I sex my kits at about 3 weeks and I rarely make an error.
Turn your rabbit over on it’s back. (This can be easier said than done.) Hold the rabbit with its head lower than its hind legs. Within a few seconds, the rabbit should start to relax. Separate his hind legs with one hand while firmly holding him with the other. By putting some slight pressure above the sexual organs you will see either a circle or slit (for younger rabbits). The male has a circle shape. The doe, a slit.
In an adult rabbit, it should be clear to tell what sex rabbit you have.

One question though...
How are you attempting to breed these rabbits? Always place the doe in the buck\'s hutch and remove her immediately after she has been bred. (To leave them together is to risk injury or worse.) Don\'t just leave them together in a group pen. You need to know when breeding takes place. (It happens fast, so you need to watch.) How old are the rabbits? What breed? This has a bearing on sexual maturity and the appropriate age to even consider breeding.

I\'m wondering also if you have them together or separate? How old are they? If they are older than a few months it is safer to keep them caged separately. And they shouldn\'t be bred unless they are over 8 mos old -at least.
It is very difficult to judge the sex for the first time. Maybe you know of someone that can help?
I went to look at a rabbit once that a lady was giving away. She said it had lumps but neglected to take it to the vet -turns out it was a male and those lumps were his testicles. I had to laugh. Sometimes even the obvious is not obvious!
