I think a cage is cleaner if you have a grate to let droppings fall through. How wide is the grate openings? Until he is litter trained and since his feet are so tiny, you might want to line an area of the grate with newspaper or his hay. Eventually you might want to get a corner potty box for his training. They train very easily.

Also, I know from reading on this Board that heat can be deadly to rabbits very quickly, even in the shade. Harplady has posted some good suggestions on beating the heat for rabbits.

The grate is probably a 1/4 inch or so wide
