Hello,
I\'m wondering what some of you do (if anything) to condition your rabbits through feed before a show. Thanks for the input.

Kelly
I think the key to conditioning is to do it gradually. (Start 4-6 weeks before the first show and continue throughout the show season.) If you talk to 5 breeders, you\'d probably get 5 different opinions on how to condition rabbits for show.

The basics are: plenty of fresh water, roughage (grass hay), and a good quality pellet - limit fed to prevent rabbits getting too fat. Grooming is also important. Every day, get out your rabbit, moisten your hands, and run them from the back forward to remove loose fur. Do this until your hands/rabbit\'s fur is dry. You will notice, when you return your rabbit to his or her cage, that he or she will begin to groom him or herself.

The following mixture works well as an addition to the daily diet when conditioning for show (feed only about 1 tsp/rabbit):

1 part steam rolled barley
2 parts steam rolled oats
1/2 part black sunflower seeds
1/2 part sweet feed

I brush my rabbit, and her feet sometimes. as a treat, people give a grape and a TINY piece of bananna. and the rest of what you do, do that like normal.
Treats and conditioning are two different things- conditioning involves the use of wheat germ oil and flaxseed- add that to what Charcie advised and you\'ve got close to brew I made for my rabbits
The Rabbitry Supply stores used to sell a 25lb bucket of conditioning pellets- I used only those until I had up to 200 rabbits- then I mixed that in with oats etc

PM me for my website URL- and then click on the link to get to the recipe - it should include the name of the conditioning pellets as I have forgotten
