Hi,

My son has a boy pet rabbit named Jesse. he is about 5 months old. My problem is that he is just mean. You can\'t stick your hand in his cage without him growling and biting, and when you do get him out and try to hold and love him, he will bite you really hard. We do let him out of the cage and let him play, and he seems happy as can be as long as you leave him alone. My son is 17 and he and his friends have been calling him Satan or Devil. My son\'s girlfriend has a girl rabbit who is as sweet as can be, and never, ever bites. Is Jesse mean because he is a boy? Any help would be most appreciated.
No, Jesse is not mean because he is a boy. Though nutering may help. In my limited experience, male rabbits are actually more social and loving than females. Females actually seem to be more territorial about their cages. How long have you had Jesse and how often is he allowed out to play. Is anyone with him when he is out playing?

I wish you a lot of luck with him. Patience may ust be the answer.
Angela: I have a male rabbit (Petey), who has never liked to be handled at all. Just like cats, dogs, and people, they have different personalities, and some bunnies do not like to be handled. Is he a \"nervous\" bunny?

Petey does enjoy being petted on his nose and head only and he will come to us for treats and love. Neutering did settle him down a little too, by the way, and I too I would encourage you to just be patient and avoid the things he doesn\'t like like reaching in the cage (lots of rabbits do not like that). He\'ll come around!
My daughter has a minilop buck that was pretty docile when he was young, but came home from the fair VERY mean! We ended up building him a cage that we could open from the top so we can reach down in to get him instead of reaching in toward him (where he can get a good bite in). Once we get him out of the cage and onto the rug, he\'s really quite docile again. She tries to \"work with him\" on a daily basis, but he\'s still very agressive in his cage. Good luck!
No its not because hes a boy ,usually my boy rabbits are more friendly than the girls.usually rabbits bite out of fear.never hit your rabbit if it bites this only makes the rabbit more afraid.i would handle him even if i had to wear gloves.you might bribe him with treats.bluebird
Is this mean rabbit a rex or mini rex? Those rabbits seem to be the pit bull of the rabbit world. ( i said SEEM. they can be nice.) maybe use apple bitter spray? I wish I could be of more help.
This apple bitter spray-- does it discourage chewing as well? I purchased some dog and cat bitter spray that really doesn\'t seem to phase Petey one way or another-- in other words, he still munches wallpaper. Is apple bitter spray effective?
I have a male rex and he has always been a sweetheart. My mix breed female became nasty when she came into maturity, and I have scars on my hand to prove it! Her personality changed back for the better once she became spayed.

I heard that hot pepper spray works on plants to keep rabbits from chewing them. Perhaps it would work on wall paper. If you do a search, I\'m sure you could find a recipe on how to make it and put it in a plant mister.

As for carpeting, one woman told me that she just put down a little hay in places where her rabbit liked to chew and he went for the hay and left the carpet alone. I know you can buy little blocks of compressed hay at a pet shop, which also might work and would be less messy.
Jesse, can be sweet for minutes. He will even let you hold him for a while. But, then comes the BITE. And, as for his cage, toys, food, and water, well that is when the attack comes too. You can offer him a treat if you dare. He comes at you with his front paws and a growl. You usually have to just drop it quick, or put your hand on his back to get his food bowl out. I don\'t know what kind of bunny he is. He is brown with a short, round face. He is very beautiful, and when you look at him you just want to love him. I went to blow him a kiss through the cage wires, and he pounced at me with the paws and a growl. He is better at protecting the house then my 3 dogs. Something else that is weird...he likes my poodle. He will let my little dog lick and sniff him, and never attack.
Jesse sounds like an interesting fellow. If you get him neutered, he should become a lot nicer around you.
