I just got a new bunny from the local pet store a few weeks ago. When I let her out to run around sometimes I smell a kind of skunky smell. I picked her up and the smell was definately coming from her. What is it? I dont know much about bunnies.

My guess is that it is the smell of her own urine. Petey has a smell to his urine and droppings too. Its not exactly skunky, but its rather \"earthy\".

What does her diet consist of?
It\'s not her pee... I sniffed everything!! Gross, but I had to figure it out. I searched and searched online and found that it was a waxy buildup in/around her scent glands that had to be cleaned. I found a good website that told me... it is: http://www.ontariorabbits.org/diet/careinfo3.html

I had rabbits when I was little, but we never played with them or let them run loose, so I have no idea really how to take care of Ms. Christie (my Dutch Dwarf). But I\'m learning and there are some good informational sites out there.Smile
Wow. I\'ve never heard of that! Is that typical of female rabbits only?
Both male and females have scent glands. Some rabbits are just cleaner than others.

Is there any way that I can keep her cleaner? So she doesn\'t smell gross so often??
Sure...

You can use a moistened Q-tip or soft cloth to soften the waxy material around the scent glands and clean it away. I\'d do a check in the area about once a month.
