Just found this discussion board while trying to find info on our new young rabbit. I bought her at a farm supply and although we\'ve only had her a week she\'s got us wrapped around her little toes! She\'ll always be a house rabbit and has a nice large cage with two stories, various grass mats and carpeted areas for lounging, a litter pan and variety of fresh greens, veggies, Kaytee Exact pellets, and sleeping hut! I\'ve been reading lots of articles and have a book on the way about keeping house rabbits. The only thing I\'m not sure about is her breed (probably a cross) and how big she will get. I don\'t even know her age, although young.
Here\'s a couple pictures:

Red: Goodness she is so cute!! And it sounds like she has better living arrangements than I do!! I don\'t know a lick about breeds but she really is a doll! Stay \"posted\" here for the best bunny tips around.
How young is she? I know you have to be careful with the amount of fresh veggies you offer at a young age.
And what is her name? Also, can you post a picture of the cage you have? I am thinking about getting my Petey a new cage.
I love her coloring! What a cutey! Please don;t tell my rabbits about her living arrangements - they\'ll be jealous. As it is, two of our bunnies head to their new living arrangements in the barn this weekend. Midnight will join them in another month or so after she has her litter and they are all doing well.
I bought Patrick the day before St. Patrick\'s Day. Then learned how to sex him a few days later and discovered it\'s a girl. We renamed her Clover but I really liked Patrick, but not Patty for a girl. We\'ll settle on something soon!
I have no idea of her age----what age are they weaned and ready for homes? That\'s probably how old she is plus the days I\'ve had her.
She loves greens and she gets baby spinach, baby green and red romaine, baby green and red oak, baby green and red butter, red swiss chard, mizuna, tatsoi, frisee and radicchio! That\'s the ingredient list on the bag I buy. I\'ve not given her any iceberg and don\'t plan to since we don\'t eat it.
I raise parrots (tiels, lovies, conures greys) and she gets their cooked vegetable mix every morning which is brown rice, brocolli, corn, peas, various beans plus apples and cornbread.
Her cage started out as a dog kennel that I paid $5 for at a yard sale last summer. It\'s 2x3x2 and has a large door at one end. The floor is covered in newspaper then \'critter litter\', a grass mat and 2 carpeted areas. Upper deck is 16\"x24\". Litter pan in the foreground and sleeping hut (converted plastic bucket) in the back. Bird toys complete the decor. When she outgrows this one I have a 3\'x4\'x3\' kennel for her.

Wow! One lucky bunny .... I love the cage set up. You really got a great deal on the cage. I\'ll have to keep my eye open for a kennel like that. Petey doesn\'t spend a lot of time in a cage, but when he needs it, I\'d love to spoil him like that... how did you attach your upper layer and ramp to the cage?
And I think Clover is a beautiful name!
The deck is 1/2\" plywood supported by 2 wooden dowel rods (bird cage perches) that span the width of the cage then the floor just sits on top. The ramp is some scrap 1/2\" lumber and is just leaned against the deck.
Should she have a salt lick? Anything else?
Cute rabbit! As long as you give him food pellets, he shouldn\'t nee a salt lick. Rabbits can get sick from too much fresh food, so if he gets loose stools, cut back on the greens. Make sure he has plenty of hay to eat, Timothy, meadow or orchard hay and maybe some twigs to chew on to keep his teeth in shape. Congratulations on your new family member.
We also converted a dog kennel for our babies to use. Though I never thought to use perches for the base of the deck to give them a second floor. We use to do exotic bird rescue, so I do have old perches around. I\'ve also given them bird toys to play with.
You asked about the age of weaning. Some wean as early as 4 weeks, most not till 6 or 8 weeks. We leave our babies with mom the full eight weeks.
Good luck with your new baby!
