Post: #1Bunnies for dummies!
Hello all! I got 3 bunnies about a month ago from the local pet store. They were my 2 month quit smoking gift from my husband. There were actually only supposed to be 2 bunnies one for each month however I couldn\'t decide between two of them so I just got all three. I was told they were all 7-8 weeks old and that they were all girls. I found a local rabbit vet and called to find out about spaying etc. I have one bunny that rubs his chin on EVERYTHING and he cleans EVERYBODY all the time. Well for about a week now he has been chasing the Rex around and the past couple of days he has been mounting her.
Anyway the vet told me they could not be spayed or nuetered until they were 5-7 months old. So how long does it take for them to act like adults and are they actually mating or just fooling around a bit? Since I do not know their exact age I am wondering if they are actually older than they told me. The 3rd bunny doesn\'t act like any particular sex. She is very uninsterested in all the courting going on. Many times she is left out of the snuggling that takes place. I do not want a liter of bunnies so should I take them to the vet and insist of getting them fixed? As you can see I am very new at this!

Thanks,
Moma of 3......Shannon

Most pet stores sex the bunnys wrong.they can breed each other and produce babies at 3 to 4 months.seperate them immediately.rabbits dont practice .if he is mounting the others they could already be bred.if he falls over after he mounts them they are likely bred. the one chinning everything is most likely a buck.if you hold them on there back you should be able to see pink hairless things if they are males.bluebird
He does not fall over. I just spoke to the vet and they told me to seperate them but would not spayt or nueter until they were 5 months old because of the anithesia issues. and the mounter is the one chinning everything. They cage has a divider in it I will get duplicates of everything today and seperate them. Also all three of them look them same down there and everything is covered with hair. Thanks for your help anything else is much appreciated. What if they have already bred how will I know if she is pregnant and what do I do next???
The only thing you can do if she is pregnant is put a nest box in the cage in 28 days after you think they bred. Its difficult to tell if shes pregnant.bluebird
I would also recommend separating her from the others. Our doe got very protective of her food, box and sections of the cage. We pulled her sister out about two weeks after the breeding, most likely two weeks too late. Each rabit has their own hutch now.
