Hello all! I got 3 bunnies about a month ago from the local pet store. They were my 2 month quit smoking gift from my husband. There were actually only supposed to be 2 bunnies one for each month however I couldn\'t decide between two of them so I just got all three. I was told they were all 7-8 weeks old and that they were all girls. I found a local rabbit vet and called to find out about spaying etc. I have one bunny that rubs his chin on EVERYTHING and he cleans EVERYBODY all the time. Well for about a week now he has been chasing the Rex around and the past couple of days he has been mounting her.
Anyway the vet told me they could not be spayed or nuetered until they were 5-7 months old. So how long does it take for them to act like adults and are they actually mating or just fooling around a bit? Since I do not know their exact age I am wondering if they are actually older than they told me. The 3rd bunny doesn\'t act like any particular sex. She is very uninsterested in all the courting going on. Many times she is left out of the snuggling that takes place. I do not want a liter of bunnies so should I take them to the vet and insist of getting them fixed? As you can see I am very new at this!

Thanks,
Moma of 3......Shannon
I don\'t think I would insist on getting them spayed early. I know some vets do it, but I question what that does to their growth. Female rabbits will mount just to show dominance. If you have a male by mistake, as he grows to maturity, you will be able to see his testicles. My female\'s looks seemed to change over night when she matured, and she developed a dewlap, a flap of skin and fat under her chin. I think I would just keep an eye on them and maybe take them in to have thier sex checked, just to be sure. On young rabbits, people sometimes get the sex wrong.
We have three bunnies, all from the same litter. They are now 3 months old, yet only one has developed the dewlap. All 3 are females. Cloud, the one with the dewlap, is the smallest of the three. The largest, Hopper, is the one the plays the mounting game. Just like kids, they each have their individual personality.
