I was looking after the school rabbits over the holiday and the female gave birth.
I can only see 3 babies as I have been carful to leave her alone as much as possible. As I am temporary foster mother for the family I wanted to know when the babies will be grown up enough to be weaned and leave their mother.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you.
What type of rabbit are they? I imagine that since they are school rabbits, they are on the smaller size.
The very earliest that they can leave mom is 4 weeks old. But the generally they are left with mom till they are eight weeks old. We leave ours with mom for the full 8 weeks.
Others on the board will be able to answer more clearly and give you the \"where\'s\" and \"why\'s\".
Good luck with them!
The rabbits are lop eared rabbits - they are not a dwarf variety but are fairly small. I believe that they are about 5/6 months old. The male has now been castrated and he is back in school.
Unfortunately, the parents are brother and sister - are there any particular concerns relating to their inter-breeding?
Many thanks for your help.
Yes breeding that closely related can be a problem.they need the teeth checked for mallaclusion at 6 weeks.you can wean from the mother at 6 weeks and put them in a seperate cage till they are 8 weeks then they can go to new homes.bluebird
