My 1 yr. old male rabbit, \"Honey,\" was neutered about 1 week ago. Since then, he has eaten and drank very little. He has also abviously peed and pooped very little (which I appreciate, but I figure is not normal). He has eaten hay and veggies well, but not his pellet blend. Is this normal? Is he on a hunger strike because I took his manhood away Smile ?
He acts normal otherwise, he is very active, his incisions look good (I paid only $20.00 to have his operation!) and he acts normal towards me and others.
I am very concerned about his eating. Has anyone else noticed this post operation? Is this normal? will he begin to eat more soon? Should I take him back to the vet?? Please answer me ASAP! I\'m worried about my Honey Bunny!
It sounds like he feels pretty good! Petey didn\'t eat a lot right after the surgery, and has never been a big drinker, so I didn\'t notice a huge difference. If you are really concerned, maybe just call the vet and run it by them.

I would think, however, that if he is eating his hay and veggies, he is probably fine.
My boy responded the same way. Normally, he would eat all day if I would let him. He is constantly begging for pellets and treats. He\'s our \"little piggy\". Smile Anyway, the first week or two post-surg his appetite slowed WAY down. He soon became his normal self again. Poor guy can\'t get enough. He\'s already slightly overweight!! It breaks my heart to say no but I want him to stay healthy!! Anyway, hope your bun is doing better.
After my rabbits were spayed and neutered, the vet sent them home with some medication to keep them eating (I don\'t remember what it was). I wondered why he did that! Now I know.
Thanks for the advice. My vet didn\'t offer me any meds to keep Honey eating, but he did receive some sort of shot for pain. Honey USED to have a big appetite, eating all day. He\'s on his second week of his \"hunger strike,\" though he is still eating veggies and hay. Do you think his stomach is upset? I will give him a few more days before I call the vet. I hope he comes out of it soon. I hate thinking that he doesn\'t feel well.
If his poop looks normal, I think Honey is alright, but I would call the vet, just to make sure. If you are concerned that he isn\'t getting enough calories, you could try alfalfa hay. If his stools are watery, then he is getting too much fresh vedgies. Rabbits do hold grudges, and he could be upset with you for taking him in for his neuter. If that is the case, he will get over it in time.
