Full Version: Excessive Hair Pulling

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum. We\'ve just had our first litter on Sunday. The doe seems to be continuously pulling hair - so much so that she has bald spots down her neck and abdomen. She\'s housed in our basement, which is quite warm at all times. Is there something we should be doing so that she will stop pulling. We try to make sure that she has a continual supply of hay, in case she wants to cover the kits more, but the hair pulling is continuing. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Our midnight looked a wreck after her first litter. Her belly looked like she had mange or something. What Midnight did was pull fur from her neck to line the nest with originally, then she pulled out the fur around her nibbels (so the kits could get to them?) after the kits were born. We also had removed a few kits who didn\'t make it and she added more fur to the nest then. That was 4 months ago and all her fur has grown back in nicely.

And we did supply her with penty of hay as well.
Some does are just real fur pullers. I wouldn\'t worry about it. (It will grow back.) I do recommend saving the excess fur and storing it in zip lock bags. Extra fur comes in handy should you have a doe that is stingy in that department.

I always do that in the summer. During the warm days, the kits don\'t need much fur. In the evening, when the nights cool down, I replace the extra fur.
