Now that I know my \"Honey Bunny\" is a male rabbit, I can move on to other subjects..........
How much food should I be giving to him? He is full grown (I hope) and I\'m guessing around 4-5 pounds. He has a little belly when he stretches out, though I think he\'s grown into most of what I thought was \"chubbiness.\" I\'ve read several things and I give him about 1/2 - 3/4 cup of the pellet blend (it has seeds, corn, and nuts in it) that I buy for him, 2-3 \"yogurt chips\" and about 1 cup of veggies each day (differs from week to week-mostly broccoli, parsley, carrots, dark greens, etc.). I also usually have some sort of chew treat in his cage-a stick or block of some sort of hard treat. I buy most of these things at Wal-Mart. He drinks about 1 water bottle a day. The reason I worry, is because every morning, his bowl is mostly empty and when I put food in, he eats like he is starving! I wondered if rabbits are like dogs, though (I have 2 dogs who are constantly \"starving\" CoolSmile and act like that all the time. Is he really hungry or is that typical rabbit behavior? Am I letting my rabbit go hungry? He runs around and jumps and plays most of the school day and has been working on devouring the yellow pages lately (he is a class pet). Does he need some more \"fuel\" or does my feeding routine seem right?
Kelly: I\'m probably not the expert on this feeding thing, but it sounds like Honey is quite happy and you\'re doing just fine. My vet told me that as long as Petey was growing and/or active, (he\'s 7 months old), to not limit his pellets. The only thing he said I should be careful of was the amount of treats each day. Treats are just to supplement his pellet intake. The vet also said fresh vegetables are fine also and about 1/2 to a cup a day was good. The vet said to make sure he always has plenty of unrestricted Timothy or mixed hay.

Petey will, of course, wait for the treats and not eat pellets unless he HAS to. I usually give him a portion of some raisins, carrots, lettuce, and those little nutra-puffs (I call them bunny cheetos), at two intervals in the day, and then the rest of the time, he can munch on pellets.

Now, let me ask you something. You mentioned before that Honey Bunny roams freely w/o chewing or littering problems, correct? Does he chew wallpaper or pull carpet at all? We are really having a problem with Petey pulling up carpet and tearing wallpaper.

I thought about buying that plastic sticky surface tape that contractors use to protect carpet and placing it under the bed that he likes to chew. Anyone\'s thoughts or ideas from anyone? That plastic stays down pretty good, but I would remove it if he started to eat it. Any other suggestions for under the bed carpet chewing?
Kelly:

Overall, it sounds as though Honey Bunny is getting great care. As stated in the last post, it\'s a good idea to offer a good grass or Timothy hay free choice if desired or at least twice a week. Also, limit feed the treats and veggies. I make it a rule of thumb to only give what the rabbit can clean up in 10 minutes or less.

Have fun with your friend. Smile
