Well, I was so worried he would thump all night since I took his goodies and water bottle, but no thumping. Instead, he was making sounds like he was vomiting! I was so worried, I couldn\'t sleep much. I told the vet about it before his surgery, and she said that rabbits don\'t vomit because of the nature of their digestive system(??), but that he may have been grinding his teeth, which does make a very obnoxious noise, apparently.

He did well with the surgery, and can come home later. I didn\'t realize they put wire stitches in that have to be removed later. The vet said she has never had any trouble with rabbits bothering them, but of course to call right away if he bites or digs at them.

She also said that he weighs 3 1/2 pounds, to which I asked if that was enough! She said she thought he was just fine for his breed, which she assumed was a dwarf mix. When I told her that the breeder I got her from said she was Sable/Florida White mix, she couldn\'t believe it. She said those breeds usually get between 12-14 pounds.

Now I\'m wondering if I\'m starving the poor little fellow! The vet seemed to think he was doing great and getting plenty. Any thoughts from the breeders on this board?

If he was designed to weigh 12-14 pounds, wouldnt he be getting bigger by this time in his life --- 7 months?
Big Grin I\'m GLAD Petey\'s surgery went well.

Your vet is right about the vomiting...rabbits don\'t. BUT...she\'s wrong about the size of Petey\'s parent breeds. Sable bucks weigh anywhere from 7-9 lbs. (8 lbs. being ideal). Florida Whites weigh 4-6 lbs at maturity with 5 lbs being the happy medium. I would say a reasonable adult weight for Petey (if these were his ancestors) is 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 lbs.

American Sables as a breed are not very common. I would guess your breeder meant Sable Point Netherland Dwarf. If this is the case, then a weight of 3 1/2 lbs. is right on the money!

Aha! Thank you for the response--very interesting and helpful. I\'m learning so much about Petey and bunnies in general. What a great board!

He is home and resting, nibbling and drinking so I assume he is feeling better. Looking forward to getting him back to his old self... well, almost old self! Smile
Glad Petey\'s surgery went well. It\'s nerve racking to have them put under due to their apparent sensitivity to anastesia! We kept putting it off and putting it off and then....... he started spraying!!!! We felt it was time. We like him to beable to rome around the house but that spraying stuff didn\'t cut it!!! He\'s now a free bunny again and doesn\'t have to be confined to his own room anymore!!! I\'m glad to hear Petey is recovering well!!!
Yeah, I\'m curious to see if Petey\'s \"marking his territory\" will stop. He is still taking it easy today, but seems very happy to be back home.

Still not very interested in food, but did drink for me a little. I guess that\'s how we all feel after a surgery ....
