Hi there.....
I had my poor boy nuetered a few days ago. This is my first experience with the nuetering of a rabbit and I am less than impressed with the vet office. The original vet could not perform the nuetering (I had a \"pre-op\" visit with her) because of illness so someone else had done it. After the surgery, the vet did not even come in to talk to me and her Tech\'s had no clue about my questions or anything else. All they told me was to check the incision everyday. When I asked any questions they always had to go ask the vet and then return with an answer. Needless to say, I left there as clueless as I was before the nuetering. I was not given any info on what I am supposed to look for when I check. My bun (Tootsie is his name) is a French Lop and at 8 months old weighs 10 lbs. He is VERY strong and DESPISES being picked up. I NEVER pick him up b/c it is to stressful for him. SO, I have been watching him closely. He seems to be acting himself and is eating and drinking. The problem is, I had noticed quite a bit of blood on the floor tonight. So, I decided to pick him up and look. Well, I have NO idea what I am looking for. I could see a little incision on one side that looked ok but I was not able to see the other side b/c he was not tolerating being held. Is there supposed to be one incision or two? the incision I did see looked good but he has two \"flaps\" of skin hanging. Are those the areas were his \"sacs\" used to be?? I\'m very concerned about the blood on the floor. It wasn\'t just a \"little bit\". Please help. Thank you, Julie
If I remember right, I think they only make one incision. Animals don\'t feel the same way about pain as people do, that is why they are almost never sent home with pain medication, and it was really hard to keep my rabbits from playing after their operations. He might have done something that caused temporary bleeding. If he is bleeding from the surface, you could put some Quick Stop on it, that stuff you can buy at the pet store for bleeding nails. Just to make sure everything is alright, I think I would call the vet.
I don\'t like all that excess blood either. That is NOT normal. Each testicle is removed separately - one incision for each scrotal sac.

Has the bleeding continued? If not, Tootsie may have reopened the incision himself and as long as he\'s acting fine, I would watch, but not worry too much. (Animals have a way of healing themselves very well without human intervention.) If the bleeding continues (or you see ANY sort of discharge), I would get him back to the vet ASAP.

Thank you both for your advice. I ended up calling the vet and they asked me to bring him in. The vet looked at both incisions and said they looked great. She told me if there is anymore blood to call and they will put him on an antibiotic for a bladder infection. I was relieved to know everything was fine. Atleast with his incisions. Still wondering where all the blood came from though. ?????? WHEW!!! this bunny Mama stuff is taxing!!!! Smile I didn\'t realize how much \"worrying\" would go along with him!!! That\'s ok though cause we love him!!! Both of you, thanks again!! Julie
