\'Greenies\', which are a cornstarch I think are dog chew bone with chlorophyll in it.
is it fine giving one to the rabbit to gnaw since she doesn\'t care at all for sticks of any kind. she even refused freshly cut apple branches. She does eat hay, but hay is fairly soft. any comments on it. how acn i keep the bunny away from any tooth problems?
Neil-
I would not recommend giving your rabbit \"Greenies\" they have very sensitive digestive tracts and although your rabbit may not exhibit any signs of a problem now one will probably occur in the near future. Offer your rabbit \"bunny chews\" like Super Pet wood chew blocks or you can purchase untreated wood toys that will offer him or her some entertainment as well as promote healthy chewing. Not all rabbits require chews anyways, eating their pellets is usually enough. If your rabbit has a history of malocclusion seek advice from your Veterinarian.
Our bun doesn\'t care for the traditional wood chew toys you find in pet stores either. And she\'s not crazy about sticks. We have left a wooden carrot chew that attaches to the cage in there and she has chewed on it. We worried about her teeth too. What we found that she loves are \'carrot slims\' (we call them crunchy munchies) they are made by vitakraft. I could only find them at petco until I asked our local feed store to order them. There is also corn flavored, but our bun is finicky and doesn\'t like that flavor. The carrot slims are about five inches long and remind me of the old \"chicken sticks\" candy (if you\'re as old as me) they are very hard and seem to keep her teeth healthy. We keep a big supply and usually feed one or two a day.
If your rabbit is eating hay then the chances of teeth problems are slim unless the parents had bad teeth. If you know anyone who has fruit trees ask for some trimmings as lots of rabbits like to strip the bark , very good for teeth. val [uk breeder]
