Hi again all!!!
Well let me say first good job everyone for all the advice you are all willing to offer all the little stories on here etc... i enjoy reading through here and getting good ideas thanks to everyone!!!!
A question for you all has anyone indroduced a puppy to a rabbit? if so how and what were the results?
Pshyco bunny is nearly a year old and we just became the proud owners of a little 5 week old pup (yes she is young but her mum was not well and the puppies had to be taken away) anyhoo pshyco bunny does not seem impressed with our newest family member and as pshyco has free ranged in the backyard all his life (except for night when he is put in his run) i dont want have to contain him permanently either. Any suggestions on how to make bunnies and puppies friends? I am more scared the bunny will hurt puppy at moment rather than other way around :/
*hugs* everyone

Hi Mandy. Smile

It has been my experience that most species of animals can get along very well together. The key is SUPERVISION. Also, breed temperaments have a bearing on how well two particular animals will get along.

Psycho Bunny may be a bit resentful at first. Rabbits, like many animals are territorial, but rabbits are also social creatures. I think the two will eventually get along fine.

What breed or cross is the puppy? Retrievers, for example, seem to be very pliable and mellow, which makes for good interspecies mixing. Huskies (appologies to Husky fans everywhere) are not such a good choice. Not that a husky can\'t be trained to get along, but I have seen MANY, MANY sad incidents where a husky\'s inbred instincts have taken over and no more rabbits, chickens, kitties, whatever. My friend had a husky she swore just loved her cat (until he killed it).

So...I do think you can be successful in introducing the two - just be watchful.

I would also watch the interaction real careful if the dog is a terrier or terrier mix. We\'ve had 3 terriers and all were natural hunters. Mainly mice, chipmunks and squirrels. We thought our JR was fine with our ******* till we came home one day and she had killed my husband\'s African Grey. Even my chihuahua, who is a good foster mom to most all animals, I watch carefully with our bunny. It\'s fine to introduce them, just supervise all interactions.

Good luck with the new puppy! There is nothing like them!

I have owned many breeds a chihuahua,Toypoodles, collie, jackrussell, beagles and mixes.i would have said my poodle would never hurt the bunny .untill one day i let her outside unknown to me the rabbit was out of her cage.she killed the rabbit before i could even yell.let me stress this was a toy poodle and the rabbit was a big minilop.I never trust any dog %100 with my rabbits.always supervise.bluebird
