Hi. Smile

For all of you who have never attended a rabbit show, try it sometime. It\'s a great opportunity to meet breeders and view many different breeds of rabbits.

You can make a search for shows near you by accessing the American Rabbit Breeders Association Website: http://www.arba.net.

Thanks for the information. I will have to try it sometime. I just hope I can stop myself from coming home with more rabbits!
Speaking from first-hand experience...Yep, it\'s hard. Smile

In fact, I picked up a new Mini Satin at a show last month, and will be picking up two more in December.

How are Satins different from Rexs? They look the same in pictures.
Satins and Rexes are both in the Commercial Body Type group, but that\'s where the similarity ends.

In Rex (and Mini Rex) fur, the guard hairs are very short - nearly the same length as the undercoat. This gives a springy, plush-like, velvety texture to the coat.

In Satins (and Mini Satins), the cuticle (outer covering) of the hairshaft is transparent and smooth, giving the coat an uncommon sheen and luster. Satin coats tend to also be softer than normal furred rabbits.

All four of these breeds are very beautiful. I have raised them all. Smile

Thanks for the information. I have been looking at pictures trying to find out what kind of rabbit my female is. It looks like she is a Silver, and she might not be a mixed breed after all! She is black with white hairs mixed in and has the cutest white ring on her tail. She doesn\'t have as many white hairs as I see in the pictures of the show rabbits, but I love her coloring. I hope to go to a show over the holidays, but that depends on if I have relatives coming to visit, so I don\'t know for sure.
Your rabbit could also be a steel, which is a color varity, not a breed. Several breeds have steel as a variety. I raised Steel Flemish Giants at one time. They were my favorite variety.

Steel is described as either gold or silver tipping over a base color. (In Flemish it was black with silver tipping.)

I hope you make it to a show, but don\'t worry - shows are held throughout the year, so you\'ll eventually get there. Smile

Her fur is brown as a base color with black tips that give her the appearance of being black. The male that I had to put to sleep was also brown with black tips, only he didn\'t have white hairs. I don\'t know if they were from the same litter, but I do know that they came from the same breeder. They were both pure black until they reached maturity. The third rabbit is a Rex from the same breeder but unrelated to the other two rabbits, I\'m sure.
