Hello! Petey will be 6 months old Nov. 22, so my vet says he can now be neutered. I am not sure what questions to ask about this or if I should have any concerns. Also, this will be our first visit to the vet for Petey, and is there any other concerns or questions I should ask at that time? He seems to be in very good health. He does develop eye mucus occasionally, but otherwise, I think he\'s very healthy.
Just any input would be appreciated. I don\'t want to miss anything when it comes to Petey\'s care.
By the way, the info on these boards is invaluable to us, and we are really amazed at how caring and knowledgeable you guys are. Thanks to all of you who answer our ???s.

Petey should tolerate the neutering procedure very well. Your vet will probably tell you to keep him confined to his cage for a couple of days, but after that, he can be let out as usual.
In regards to the mucous you find in Petey\'s eyes from time to time...That would be in response to an irritant of some kind (either internal or external). Normally, a rabbit\'s eyes should be bright and clear at all times.
I have found
Systemajuv (available at the
Rabbit Medicine Chest) to be a great assist in boosting a rabbit\'s imune system. After using it myself, I can\'t say enough good things about it. I give 10 drops in 16 oz. of water each day for 2 weeks at the first sign of any off appearance or behavior. The stuff is great.
I have a link to the Rabbit Medicine Chest on my website:

Good luck with Petey.

We just had my 7 month old male neutered about 2 weeks ago and he was back to his normal self by the next morning. I was worried about his wound area getting infected by the bedding we use but he was perfectly fine. We kept him inside (he usually stays outside during the day) for a few days just to keep an eye on him and he was back out in his cage within 3 days.
Thank you for the input. The vet apparently wants to examine him first before the surgery, which is fine with me. Do you notice any difference in your bunny\'s chewing behavior or anything else? TX
I have not noticed any difference in his chewing behavior. He has been himself since we brought him home. He doesn\'t seem bothered when I pick him up either. I\'ve picked him up since I got him (when he was 8 weeks old) to make sure he was used to me so I\'ve never really had a problem with that anyway. I\'ve been told (and I\'m not sure how true this is) that they handle recovery better when they are younger so maybe that\'s why he\'s sprung back to his normal self so easily and quickly.
Good luck with your bunny!
