Hello everyone. Long time no see.

One of my rabbits has a growth on it\'s lateral side. The growth is the size of a small strawberry and is round. I can grip the growth and feel the skin underneath.... so it is a superficial growth that is not attached to the underlying flesh. This growth has a few capillaries that are visible, otherwise it is grey in color. (rabbit is originally black... gray may be because the skin is stretched). I have tried lancing the growth, but all it does is bleed. No purulent drainage. What I did notice was that the cut (from my sterile lance) has been slow to heal... which leads to question that there might be purulent (pus) drainage inside this growth.

What I thought about doing was wrapping the growth with dental flosh and cutting the circulation off. The round growth would then just become necrotic and fall off. (Keep in mind that I can feel underneath the growth and even pinch the skin together.) What are some people\'s opnions regarding this matter?

P.S. No.. this growth is not a nipple. Also, it has grown over the past month. No.. my rabbit does not have pain attributed to this growth. No signs of distress are noted when I examine the growth.

Thanks

You could be dealing with a tumor or an abscess, or even a warble (larvae of the warble fly). If it was the latter, though you should be able to see some sort of breathing hole and movement in the lump. If you are SURE there is not a larvae inside, you might try aspirating the growth with a syringe and sterile needle to ascertain what may be inside.

Not knowing what you are dealing with, I don\'t feel comfortable with the dental floss ligature idea. (Besides, I think your rabbit would have that off in a New York minute.)

If you can afford the visit, I recommend getting your rabbit to the vet. He or she, through a visual exam, should be able to ascertain what the growth actually is.

Good luck. Smile
