I\'m Leeann from North Carolina. I currently own a indoor rabbit but am looking into outdoor rabbits and maybe even breeding. What\'s the best way to have a bunny outdoors. It don\'t get that cold here because I live in the southern part but I also have a playhouse build out of wood. Would that help and put my bunnies in there at night if it gets extremely cold and have heat lamps to keep them warm. Please help me out
Hi Leeann...

Does your playhouse have earthen floors or wood or concrete? Earthen floors would be best, in my opinion, as you would have to use dropping trays if there were an actual floor of some type.

I don\'t think you would need any supplemental heat. Rabbits do pretty well even in very cold weather as long as they\'re sheltered from drafts. Summer heat would be a much bigger worry. Even in winter, it is important to have adequate ventilation. I assume the playhouse has windows. As long as you can open them to allow good ventilation, it should be a good home for the rabbits. My playhouse has wood floors, but I plan on having a wood cage on the inside and on the outside just in case I have to move it inside. My playhouse also has electricity too. I have 1 rabbit now but my mom doesn\'t like animals indoors that much and my rabbit is indoors so they only way i can get more is if there outdoors. I\'m also reading up on breeding if it goes as planned like i want it.
Hi Leeann:

My name is Madeleine and I live in Canada. My rabbits have always been outdoors. Even in winter I have not had any problems with them. They are in sheds and in individual cages, just make sure that they have enough ventilation. Their coats seem to get thicker in the winter so it gives them more protection. The only problem that I have is their water dishes freezing, so I just have to change them a little more often. Just make sure that there is alot of protection for them from the winds. I hope this helps.

Madeleine
