How much does a 3 month old rabbit need as far as pellets are concerned? I make sure he has fresh hay twice a day, and I normally give him a big handful of pellets a day and he eats it all by the end of the day!! Am I giving him enough, not enough or too much??? He is a little round cutie.

Tx
Well, it depends a lot on the breed as to how much in the way of pellets a rabbit requires, but what my practice is is to free feed growing pre-junior and junior rabbits. (Give them all they want.)

As the rabbit approaches breeding age, I begin to limit feed. Small breeds - 2 to 3 oz/day, Medium breeds - 4 to 6 oz/day, and large breeds - 7 to 9 oz/day. When limit feeding, it is important to carefully observe the rabbits each day. Start at the low end of the scale. If the pellets are licked clean and the bunny acts like he or she is starving, increase the amount a little. When the pellets are pretty much gone save for a crumb or two, cut back just a smidge and that\'s probably the correct amount.

If you have an overweight bunny, replacing the pellets with good grass hay a couple of times a week seems to work well. Smile
