Hello. I need your advise. I am considering buying a rabbit as a pet. Here is the situation:
I own an RV Resort & Campground, which has an office and gift store. Until recently, we had a very friendly cat that stayed in the office - our customers (many kids) loved him. Unfortunately we had to put him down. I would really like to get a rabbit to replace him. I know nothing about them - thats why I am here. The office is open 365 day a year, with plently of activity - again, esp. kids. My questions:
Would a rabbit enjoy this environment?
Would the rabbit be okay spending the night alone (in a cage, I assume)?
Would it do damage to the gift store merchandise (I know its is a stupid question - but could they jump on low shelves and knock things over?
What breed would be recommended?

Any advice would be appreciated!
I don\'t think that it would be a good idea having it out and around with customers. Your pet could accid ently be stepped on, get stolen, or run out a open door.

A lot of activity could stress out a rabbit, and too much stress could kill a rabbit.

I would be worried about the rabbit getting out the door.
rabbits are by nature very curious and would probably try and get up on the shelves to investigate. There is also the time it takes to litter train them properly.
If you were to get a rabbit I would suggest a Flemish Giant. They are notorious for being very friendly and out going. I have one an can attest to how great they really are. Mine loves everyone but especially kids. With a biger breed of rabbit you would need a larger size cage for at night.
Here is a link to the National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit Breeders website. They have a lot of wonderful information on the breed as well as pictures and links to good breeders.

Flemish Giants tend to be laid back and mellow. They are more like a dog than a rabbit. They will follow you around for some petting and loving and most love attention.
They do get big. The should weigh a minimum of 13 pounds for bucks and 14 pounds for does. My guy weighs 19 pounds, so they can get very big.
Just an idea.
Letting him run loose in the store might not be a good idea. bunnies can get into things and chew on stuff. I would get it a large cage to keep it in or a puppy pen. Also youll need to litter train it.

Rabbits do very well inside cages. And should be kept the cage Unless you are in the store to supervise it while its allowed to run loose.

They jump can jump onto almost anything. Hence thats why it would be a good idea to keep it in a cage or puppy pen if you aren\'t gonna be there to supervise it.

There are 45 breeds or rabbits to choose from. Also hundreds of mixes too. What you should do is check out some of the breeders in your area and see what they have available. Or take a look on petfinder.com and adopt a needy pet bunny from an animal shelter in your area.
not good for a bunny to be with alot of people....especially kids and all the loud noise that they make and also they get frightened very easily....most are timid anyway....they enjoy peace and quiet and lots of room to play.....want a bunny....keepit at home ..It will love you better there.....not for display.....Raven
