I Have 2 sick bunnies, They can\'t stand at all. Their back legs are useless. I was told it was coccidiosis. I have them on electrolytes. Does anyone else have some advice. I was also told to get some sulfaquinoxaline for the bunnies. Where do I purchase this medacine? I\'m on a very limited income because of disability. PLEASE HELP
I don\'t believe your bunnies have coccidiosis but I could be wrong. This info. is from a the Official guide book RAISING BETTER RABBITS AND CAVIES: Intestinal coccidiosis is caused by a protozoan parasite of the genus EIMERIA. Clinical Sighs: May be a precursor to other enteric diseases. Diarrhea, low rate of gain, poor fur and flesh condition, pot-bellied, decreased disease resistance and other secondary infections. Does not cause liver pathology on necropsy. Prognosis: Excellent with the appropriate medication. Treatment is the same for both forms of coccidiosis. Use of a coccidiostat on a regular basis as a preventive or treatment with medicated drinking water appears to be most successful. Prevention: Sanitation, self cleaning hutches, and wire brushing of cage floors. Prevent fecal contamination of food, water, and enviroment.

We put a capfull of bleach in a 5 gallon bucket of water to prevent coccidiosis. We have never had it and I believe the sulfaquinoxaline can be found at a vet\'s office.

Are you bunnies together in one pen? Is it possible for them to be romping around and injure thier spines somehow, or even something spooking them that may cause them to run about and injure thier spines? It sounds to me that you may have paralysis in the hindquarters. I recently have gone through this. Unfortunately she made progress but still had to be put down because of fly strike. Please email and keep us posted. Good luck with you bunnies. I hope I was able to help some.
