Full Version: Sigh Common Bunny?

This bunny is about 3 to 4 weeks old. She is not a Dwarf breed rabbit, her mother and father are rather large common rabbits. The lady that gave Brianna the rabbit said she was ok to leave mommy (I thought maybe she was too young still to leave mom too) and that she was quite alright to eat the weeds that grow outside in the grass. Her mother and father frequently eat these weeds from my yard and from my other neighbors yards, so I figured since they weren\'t dead yet it wouldn\'t hurt Princess (thats what Brianna named her). As of yet she is not drinking from the bottle we have given her. I don\'t think she knows how too yet. We tried giving her water in a small dish but I don\'t think she got that concept either. This rabbit is quite literally only a handful. Meaning you can hold her with one hand and she would sit in the palm of your hand very comfortably and not fall. She likes to lay on my daughters chest and she lays next to my daughter while she is watching TV. For now she is kept in a box that is large enough to contain her without her jumping out.
Someone please help as I don\'t want my daughter new friend to die. I\'m a good mother and my daughter is a good mother but mothering will not help if we don\'t have a clue about baby bunnies :-(
That lady was wrong. That baby obviously isnt ready to be weaned yet. A fully weaned bunny would know how to drink from a water dish. Did you try showing her where the dish is? You might want to try showing her the waterbottle nipple, so she gets the idea what its for. Put the nipple up to the bunnies mouth, and and gently squeeze so the water comes out. The weeds wont hurt her, but she needs to be on a fully pelleted diet. I gave you some good advice in my last response. Please read and listen to it.

4 week old bunny is just barely beginning to taste its food, and explore its surroundings. If she doesn\'t pick up on things soon, it might be a good idea to take it back where you got it from. then get it back once its old enough to leave the mom.

Try feeding with Eye dropper or syringe...the vets have tips to add to them if you ask and say what you\'re using them for they usually don\'t cost anything.........mix goats milk and water equally....warm and then feed......you can get milk at the grocery store.... also offer hay.....aand keep baby warm .....maybe on heating pad ..with small towel over it so as not to burn baby......offer timmithy hay to lay on or poop on or eat if she can.....do this as soon as possible or take baby back it will die.......feedings should be every 4 hrs......Raven You can e-mail me if you want...........
