My bunny (holland lop) has had run of the house since I got her about 8 months ago. She was only in her cage when we were at work. Lately, when she is out, she has started to dig. I have tried using a squirt bottle and she seems to like the water and has no reaction what so ever to it.
She knows when she is digging, that she\'s in trouble because she will drop down and run when she is caught. Today she actually dug up a large chunk of carpeting. I am sure it is out of spite. What can I do. She is not spayed. We are leaving to get married in Ontario and Bunny will be at someone elses house for a few weeks. What if she digs up their carpet. If you have any ideas, please help.
I had a problem with mine doing that.....I helped her out by putting play sand in a box or litter pan.....shredded news paper works to.........mine now love to get in the box and dig rather than dig the carpet.....another thing I did was to put a soft old sweater of mine down ....some say a towel works and she digs and pushes it around on the floor........these things stopped mine from digging up the carpet...hope it will help you..and they don\'t know what it means to be sprayed with water..it will only make them worse.....Raven
I like the sandbox idea. I have also heard of people giving their rabbits a box of hay with vedgies and pellets on the bottom so their rabbits will dig in the hay instead. One house rabbit owner told me that he orders golf club shipping boxes from the web. His rabbit runs through them like tunnels and he said it stopped his rabbit from digging. I use cardboard concrete forms that can be found at building supply stores for less than $5 each, and you can get 3 of them that will fit inside each other for easy storage. The club boxes might be cheaper though. My rabbits are outside, and rearranging the object in their yard often has stopped them from digging. While you might not want to keep rearranging your furniture, maybe try putting boxes or baskets on the floor in different places each day to give your rabbit a different floor pattern to explore. Congratulations on your marriage!
